Helen Collie

Helen Collie is a Chartered structural engineer with over fifteen years industry experience, from design and coordination of arts, education, healthcare, and commercial structures, transitioning to become a specialist in forensic engineering work. A Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers, Helen sits on both the Membership and Design Practice Risk & Safety Committees of the IStructE. She is also a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (MICE).

Helen’s experience includes insurance-based property loss consulting, for example earthquake damage assessments and reporting on the Christchurch earthquakes in New Zealand (2011), cause and origin reporting, and forensic investigations for disputes. She has produced reports either assisting or as named expert witness in issues of disputed design liability, coordination issues, materials/specifications defects, alleged poor workmanship, and construction defects.

Helen’s design experience ranges from high rise concrete structures, to adaptive reuse of existing London building stock, to complex steelwork arrangements. Her forensic experience includes vibration issues, steelwork connection design and construction, water ingress to basements, blockwork and RC construction on smaller scale projects, and concrete condition surveys and testing.
